District Soccer Playoff Information
Attention Coaches:
This is our first year with the District Soccer Playoffs and we have a very tight schedule. We need your help to make sure the tournament games stay on schedule. Please show up with all your ID Cards and your approved roster, so your players and coaches can be checked. It helps to have your ID cards on a key ring in the same order as they appear on your roster. Thanks in advance for your help.
One Open and one Closed team from each gender from fifth grade on up will represent the District in the Archdiocesan Playoffs. A season ending District tournament will determine the representative teams in the City-County Playoffs for the respective divisions. There will be separate tournaments for Open and Closed teams. The format of the tournaments will be single elimination with 8 teams in the Open Division Tournament and 4 teams in the Closed Division Tournament for each grade and gender.
The participating teams will be selected and seeded based on points within the division. In case two teams are tied in points, the tiebreaker will be:
1. Head-to-head competition
2. Fewest goals allowed (season total)
3. Most goals scored (maximum of 3 goals per game)
4. Flip-of-the coin
The Open Tournament will be comprised of the top 4 teams in the "A" division, the top 2 teams in the "B" division, and the top 2 teams in the "C" division. If a team is unable to play, the next place team in that division becomes eligible. The "A" division teams will be given the highest seeds, followed by the "B" division teams, followed by the "C" division teams. The highest-level teams will be given the higher seeds.
The Closed Tournament teams will be chosen starting at the highest division and moving down until 4 teams are selected. The highest-level teams will be given the higher seeds.
A few notes:
1) Closed brackets have been set using the best available time space to meet the needs of the teams to the best of our ability. Remember that only certain fields have lights, so can not accommodate all requests and fit in the tournament.
2) All coaches need to bring their CYC coaches cards and their player ID cards and the CERTIFIED roster to the game. Card, roster checks will be strictly enforced.
3) At our major cites, CBC and Kennedy, only coaches with cards, referees, players with cards and league officials will be allowed down on the playing field. All others must stay in the designated fan area. Remind the fans that failure to follow these guidelines could result in a coach being carded and additional issues as deemed necessary.
4) At all venues, Only coaches in the coaches and coaching the team.
REMEMBER THIS IS A CHRISTIAN EVENT, NOT THE WORLD CUP!!
We hope to not halt a game because of coach's or fans actions, but reserve that right.
5) Time constraints have forced on rule change. In the event of a tie at the end of regulation, we will immediately go to a best of 5 shoot-out in lieu of overtime periods. If tied after the shoot-out, it goes to sudden death shoot-out. Your players can only kick ONCE.
